Getting in

Tor Browser, set up right, in about fifteen minutes

An onion address is not a website you can open in anything. It is a name that only the Tor network can resolve, so the setup question is really one question: how do you get a clean Tor Browser onto the machine in front of you. Everything else on this page follows from that.

Why the market will not open in a normal browser

Type one of the addresses from the top of this page into Chrome and you will get an error, and the error is correct. The name does not exist on the ordinary internet. There is no DNS record for it, no server answering on port 443, no https version of the market anywhere. The blackops market tor address is the only form of the market; everything else is a description of it.

A VPN does not change this. A VPN hides your traffic from your network provider and hands it to a server that also cannot resolve the name. The market is reachable from inside Tor and from nowhere else, which is the feature and the reason this directory exists at all.

Get the browser from the one place that matters

The Tor Project ships it, and the Tor Project is the only source that matters. Download from torproject.org on the machine you intend to use, for the operating system you actually have.

Why the source matters more than the version: the file is small, the name is common, and "Tor Browser" is a search result that people sell. A modified installer puts someone else's code between you and every site you open, which defeats the point of the whole network. If you want to be thorough, the download page carries a signature you can verify; ten minutes, and you know the file is the one the project built. What that signature actually proves is in the glossary.

The ones to avoid: "Tor packs" that bundle a browser with extra tools, APKs shared in marketplace chats, and any download that arrived because a page told you to install something. The market does not need you to install anything but the browser.

The security level, set once

Tor Browser ships on Standard, which allows scripts and most web features. For this site, set it to Safest the first time you open it: the onion icon in the address bar, then the level, then Safest.

What changes: scripts and web fonts are blocked, some pages render plainer, and the fingerprint your browser presents gets smaller. What it buys: the front pages of markets like this one are written to load without scripts, so you lose almost nothing and keep the margin. If a specific page genuinely needs scripts, drop that one tab back to Standard and know the trade you just made.

The first visit, and why it is slow

Open the browser, paste an address, press enter, and expect a wait. The first request builds a circuit through three relays, and on a cold start that takes ten to forty seconds. It is not stuck, it is paying the connection cost you will never pay again in this session.

After the first page, the same session is fast, because the path is already built. The pattern to learn: slow once, quick forever after, until you close the browser or ask for a new identity. If every visit is slow, the network is the problem, and the bridges section below is the fix.

One habit worth installing on day one: before a session you care about, press New Identity (Ctrl+Shift+X). It builds a fresh circuit, so the market sees you arriving on a path that was not used for whatever you did before.

The same setup, four machines

MachineThe short versionThe catch
WindowsInstaller from torproject.org, run it, set Safest.Keep the browser in its own folder; other software that watches that folder can see your history files.
macOSSame installer, same steps.Gatekeeper will ask the first time; allow it once, from the official app, not a repack.
LinuxDownload the tarball, unpack, run start-tor-browser.The distro package is usually months old and pulls in system libraries you did not ask for. The tarball is self contained.
AndroidIt works, and it opens the same addresses.A phone is the weakest machine you own: background apps, a permanent identity, a location history. Use it deliberately, not by default.

Note If none of these are yours, a Tails USB stick is the strong answer: it boots into a live system, routes everything through Tor, and forgets everything when you shut it down. Nothing to install, nothing left behind.

When Tor itself will not connect

Some networks block the normal entry points, and then Tor Browser sits on its own splash screen. The fix is a bridge: an entry relay that does not advertise itself, so a filter that knows the standard list does not know it.

Start with the built-in option in the connection settings, then request an obfs4 or a Snowflake bridge if those are blocked too. Expect the connection to get slower; going around a wall has a price, and the price is patience, not privacy.
